Pilates is an exercise approach that targets your posture muscles. Pilates helps these posture muscles improve in strength and control, so you can have:
Pilates is about relearning correct movement patterns. As you practice the exercises over a few weeks, your body begins to use the appropriate muscles during it's daily activities. This results in better posture, increased energy levels, improved muscle tone and less pain. Correct training and supervision of the exercises is very important, as otherwise you train your body into wrong habits. Before commencing a pilates program our physiotherapists examine your muscle and joint system from head to toe, to determine your needs. We then instruct you on your personalized program using our specialized Pilates equipment.
Physiotherapists are the best people to see for Pilates. A physiotherapist is trained to assess and diagnose the musculoskeletal system, and can ensure you are working your muscles correctly. We understand how muscle imbalances lead to pain and injury recurrence. Our physiotherapists have either a Bachelor or Masters degree in physiotherapy, and have done extra training in equipment based Pilates.
What is Equipment Based Pilates?
We specialize in equipment based Pilates. Equipment based Pilates means that equipment such as the Reformer or Trapeze table are used to do the exercise. Floor work Pilates is also an effective form of Pilates, but the use of the equipment allows for a greater range of exercise options to suit your needs. Exercise can be performed standing, lying face up or down, kneeling, or sitting.
